Rahu-Ketu, The Nodes of the Moon, Duality of Consciousness
A Solar Eclipse occurs when the moon goes in front of the sun and blocks most of the sun's light from the earth. During a total eclipse all you can see from earth is a ring of light around the moon which is part of the sun the moon did not cover. It is dangerous to look at a solar eclipse directly.
Vedic Astrology offers yet another facet to the jewel of conscious exploration and that is in the analysis of the Nodes of the Moon. The placement of the North Node, known as Rahu and the South Node, known as Ketu reveals important clues regarding the past life karmas and aspects of your personality. We all have a nodal axis in our charts. Rahu represents the head of the serpent and has a strong desire for material rewards the earth plane has to offer such as wealth, success, sex, notariety and fame. Ketu is the body of the serpent and isn't so interested in the physical world. Ketu is interested in attaining enlightenment and studying spiritual texts. Both Rahu and Ketu express these basic opposites in various ways depending upon their placement in the chart. They are always 180 degrees apart. During your reading we will discuss your Nodal placements and possible balance points you can focus on in your life. The information pertaining to the different nodal axis points come from studying the following texts:
"The Key of Life" by Prash Trivedi and "The Lunar Nodes" by Komilla Sutton Both books can be purchased on Amazon.
Rahu and Ketu are considered Shadow Planets in Vedic Astrology. They have no physical identity. They are mathematically calculated sensitive points having immense influence in our lives. I have listed all of the Nodal Axis positions for the various signs below. These are only brief descriptions of possible personality variations a person may experience with this type of Astrological configurartion. House and Nakshatra placements must also be analyzed to create a complete picture of the issues and karmas at hand.
IA lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes through the shadow of the earth. A lunar eclipse can last up to an hour and one half. During a lunar eclipse the moon may turn a reddish color. It is not dangerous at all to look at a lunar eclipse because the moon does not make its own light.
The Dark Side of the Moon
Both sides of the Moon see the same amount of Sun, however, only one side of the Moon is ever seen from Earth. The Moon rotates around on its own axis in exactly the same time it takes to orbit the Earth. The same side is always facing the Earth. The side we see is lit by reflected sunlight, while the side facing away from Earth lies in darkness and has only been seen by the human eye from a spacecraft. The rise and fall of the tides on Earth is caused by the Moon. There are two bulges in the Earth due to the gravitational pull that the Moon exerts; one on the side facing the Moon, and the other on the opposite side that faces away from the Moon, The bulges move around the oceans as the Earth rotates, causing high and low tides around the globe.
The Size of the Moon and distance to Sun
From our perspective here on Earth the Moon and the Sun look approximately the same size in the sky. Of course, the Sun is much much larger than the Moon. The Sun happens to be 400 times larger than the Moon, but it’s also 400 times further away.
