"The little space within the heart is as great as the vast universe. The heavens and the earth are there, and the sun and the moon and the stars. Fire and lightening and winds are there, and all that now is and all that is not.”― Swami Prabhavananda, The Upanishads: Breath from the Eternal
THE NAKSHATRAS - YOUR PERSONAL ASTROLOGICAL STAR MAP
The Vedas are filled with myths about powerful Gods, Goddesses and Demons. The portrayals of these Gods are brought to life not only by their powers but also by the tools they used to accomlish their mighty feats. When we study the archetypes of these epic stories in Hinduism we come to understand how they play out in our lives today. Daksha had 27 daughters. Chandra the Moon married all of them, but Rohini was his favorite. Rohini was so beautiful and sensuous he was spending all of his time with her and ignoring his other wives. "Hell hath has no fury like a woman's scorn", or in this case, 26 furious women. They pleaded with their father Daksha to punish Chandra. Daksha cursed Chandra so that he would gradually fade away. Chandra didn't want to disappear. He prayed to Shiva. Shiva said that while Daksha's curse would cause him to wane, Shiva's gift to him would cause him to wax. And thus Chandra would go back and forth disappearing into the blackness of space and then gradually returning, growing back to a full moon every 30 days. It is believed when Chandra disappears completely he still steals away to be with the love of his life, Rohini!
